But a small part of the gestalt entity that shall be WetGenes. A Gene is short for Generator, I didn't know that when I started, but I realise it now. Generators are things that generate content, an underlying theme is to allow customization as seen in the WavyAvatars editor. By producing Generators interaction and customization is highly encouraged, which is a good thing TM. Generators are kind of a meta art and exactly what computers can provide that other media can't, interactivity. A sandbox environment focuses the generated content into a certain form but still bonds the viewer to the content as its creator. Even if the viewer is little more than a random number generator from my point of view :) Replays and level editors are a simple way of achieving this in games. So thats what I'm focusing on. By playing the game you generate extra content for the game, even if all it is is an entry in the list of the best replays. It's still user generated content. The game would be less without it. One of my main projects is to create a something where the level editor is not just a tacked on extra, it is the main focus of the game. This is the WetConstructor / WetDestructor concept that I will no doubt get working at some point. You could also consider the best score/replay of a game as the ultimate final form, I didn't make the best way to play the game, but I created the rules that focus the player into that form. Which is what I want, if I knew exactly what I was going to end up with there would be little point in creating it. Of course most of what I want is still not here, welcome to the webby webby woo the ultimate manifestation of WabiSabi. It will never be finished but the form will become more obvious as time goes by. |
